Does your apartment need a little pick-me-up? If you’re in NYC, the next two weeks are a gold mine for some inspiration: the NYCxDESIGN festival – a city-wide celebration of all the good stuff happening in art and design – just kicked off this week. From Frieze New York on Randall’s Island (running through this weekend) to Sight Unseen OFFSITE, there’s plenty of opportunity to peek into the art/design community this month.
Speaking of which, the third annual live show from one of our favorite design mags, Sight Unseen, takes place next week, showcasing the innovative work of 50+ independent design studios hand-picked by the Sight Unseen team. Among these include some Framework Mag alum – CHIAOZZA and Recreation Center – and some design studios that we’ve been low-key stalking on Instagram for a while now (we’re looking at you, @dusendusen).
If you’re in town next weekend (May 13-16), we recommend dropping by the event for some serious cutting-edge design inspiration from the best talent in the game. RSVP for the event here (it’s free!) and read on to see what you can’t miss:
1. Chiaozza + Studio Proba
2. Dusen Dusen
Dusen Dusen’s signature bold prints may have taken the interwebs by storm, but it’s not the only reason why we’re following the design studio’s Instagram feed – Ellen Van Dusen’s pup is the most adorable model we’ve ever seen.
3. Mast Brothers
Anyone who can bring together good chocolate and good design is a friend to us. And since we’re just a few steps away from their Brooklyn HQ, we’re no strangers to that delicious waft of cocoa coming out of their chocolate factory.
4. Recreation Center
We hung out in Josephine’s beautiful Bushwick studio last year (see her Classic Stories feature here), so we can’t wait to see what she’s been cooking up since then.
5. Print All Over Me
Ever wished you could wear the internet? Print All Over Me delivered.
6. Object + Totem
Brooklyn-based ceramic artist Julie Ahn’s collection is a beachy-toned dream.
Based out of Philly, Felt+Fat creates all of their ceramic pieces from a porcelain clay formulated in-house, achieving a beautiful marble finish.
8. Bloc Studios
9. Things Industries
They’re known for that chair.
10. Umbra Shift
Umbra Shift is a platform of experimentation and collaboration for a group of innovative designers, who’ve created a plethora of unique-yet-functional pieces of artwork.
