Artist Collaboration Series: Tim Lahan x Classic Specs

“I generally aim to make things as simple as possible. Sometimes they come out funny.” – Tim Lahan, artist & illustrator

From editorial illustrations in The New York Times to his album artwork for the band CLPPNG, there’s a good chance that you’ve seen Tim Lahan‘s work before. The Philadelphia-based artist is known for his minimalist and often tongue-in-cheek illustrations, picking up on the visual cues in his everyday surroundings. We collaborated with Tim to reimagine one of our classic styles – the Amherst – in a bold-yet-understated clear frame, aptly named Three Way for the subtly different shade of clear blue in each piece of the frame.

We’re excited to launch the limited edition Classic Specs x Tim Lahan glasses along with the work of some of our other favorite artists, including Jean Jullien and Margherita Urbani. Check out Tim Lahan’s Three Way glasses here, and scroll down to take a look at Tim’s illustrious breadth of artistic work:

Tim Lahan on the creation of the Three Way frames:

“I wanted to focus on the construction of the frames. The fact that it’s three separate color pieces held together gives each piece its own vibe, without coming off as garish or unwearable. I love translucent materials. Instead of focusing on an opaque color, you’re creating a sort of ‘lens’ that allows you to see through the object rather than wonder what’s behind it.”
