3 Things to See: New Spring Art Exhibitions

Spring is officially here, and we’re kicking things off with a roundup of some of our favorite recent art exhibits. Here’s what’s on our radar by our shops in New York City, Los Angeles, and San Francisco:

New York City is rich with new art openings this spring – we recommend checking out the Whitney Biennial, the 78th installment of the longest-running survey of American Art, and Georgia O’Keefe: Living Modern, an exploration of the storied painter’s self-crafted public persona.

LAKerry James Marshall at MOCA

This recently-opened exhibit at MOCA Grand Avenue features a 35-year retrospective on the work of painter Kerry James Marshall, whose work is celebrated for its joyful portrayal of African Americans in a landscape of underrepresented black painters and black subjects. Marshall’s paintings are stunning, and displayed here in chronological order – so you can watch his progression as a painter and activist over a 35-year period.

SF: Diane Arbus at SFMOMA

Our favorite Diane Arbus exhibit featuring over 100 photographs from the early years of the photographer’s work has migrated over to San Francisco – we highly recommend checking out this show at the SFMOMA.
